Candidate Album Release

or the Quest for Ad hominem

For about two years I’ve been working on an album called “Ad hominem” A project that has taken several years to make that has consumed most of my time and thinking. However, I didn’t make that album. Ad hominem will probably be created at some point but I don’t believe that it will be made with my current resources and skills. My plans for the album has changed, several times, and these plans have outpaced my skills.

Plan 1: Music From the Fourth War

Back in June of 2024 I released a compilation album called “New Wave by a Madman” which is how’d I’d describe most of the music I made before hand. I was trying to ape Devo and Talking Heads but with my own brand of thought attached to it. Which at the time of making Life Rules was some weird combination of Christianity with Absurdism/Nihilism which... Wasn’t that good of an idea. The result of this was an album that was very similar to How to Be Cool but with this as its guiding thought instead of the fun that guided HTBC. Music from the Fourth War, the title was chosen because I though it sounded smart. However as I was planning to release it, I experience a lot of changes that made me realize something: I’m a fucking dumbass. And this piece of music sucked so bad that it made me choose to not release it. Half the songs were just “remixes” of random video game songs. Only a few of them real music. Most of which was made using onemotion.com drums and chords. I decided, none of this, I will actually make something with music that I wrote, with instruments I played. Thus I began on plans 2 and 3.

Plan 2: Several songs

I have a keyboard that I used for some songs on HTBC, so I began to write songs that I could record on this keyboard. Which I wasn’t too fond of. As an aside, one song that I uploaded from here “Facinated” wasn’t apart of plan 3 but was instead apart of plan 2 because plan 3 was the concept album.

Plan 3: Concept revolving around the shopping cart

shopping car

So one day I was walking my dog when I happened upon a shopping cart left near my neighborhood. Three photo’s were taken. One with flash on, which had my dog in the lower left corner of it. One with “night sight” which looked like crap. One which is pictured above. Then I got an album cover in my head which I’m not sharing but it uses this image. So I began to figure out a concept based around why this is here.

The concept was based around the idea that some descendant of mine left this here to warn me about something... Rough plot would’ve been about a riot, which lead to my descendant (who just so happens to act exactly like I would in my head) getting divorced, trying to figure out what happened to cause the riots, realizing that it was something I did, locating a secret time machine underneath the Vatican, and then him sending a shopping cart back with a note attached that unfortunately burned up.

Plan 4/5: Guitar & and the new way forward

After these I decided to lean guitar. Eventually then I started writing songs, most of which weren’t that good. But I actually wrote songs. However Some problems occurred, that lead to me realizing that I didn’t have the skill to carry out what I was planning. Thus I decided to start writing music, and not only that but also record it. Just put it out, and then forget about it.

Post Release Thoughts

So this album isn’t as good as I’d like it to be. However its not as bad as it could’ve been. Its less serious, but not insincere. I believe that everything you do must be sincere, you have to enjoy it. It was just recorded at my desk with my guitar, Bosca Ceoil sounds (usually the simple drumkit), and my horrid voice, trying to make something. If you want to check it out: you can find it on YouTube and on Bandcamp. If (for some reason) you like it and want to buy it, then you can do that as well.
